The Christian Union exists to help you find out more about Jesus.
We believe that Jesus is God, and that through his life, death and resurrection, imperfect people like you and us can know God and have an everlasting relationship with him. This is what we call the Good News and what we're so excited about!
The Bible is a book about Jesus that's come to us from God through human authors. Everything it says is true and is what God's saying to us today, so we want to listen to its message ourselves and to pass it on to others. That's why we give bits of the Bible away to everyone who wants one. That's also why we invite people to come and explain bits of the Bible to us each week, and why we meet in smaller groups to study the bible together.
We also do various activities on campus to pass the Bible's message on to others, and we run special events to help you learn more about Jesus. For a programme of forthcoming events, click here. For international students we hold a weekly café as well as putting on special events. For details of our international programme, click here.
The Christian message isn't simply something we believe with our minds - its truth also transforms our lives. With the help of God's Holy Spirit we try to put God's message into practice. Fundamentally, that means recognising Jesus' authority over every area of our lives and striving to live in a way that pleases him. We know we can't earn God's favour by the way we live - Jesus has already won it for us by living a perfect life, then dealing with our wrongdoing by taking its penalty. That's why he died on the cross, taking the punishment that each of us deserves. To show our gratitude for this, we now try to live in a way that pleases him. Often that means living in a way our society thinks isn't normal, but the Bible tells us it's God's way. We want to help other Christians to engage with our society but to live to please God, as we get to know Jesus better together. We look to encourage each other to grow in our relationship with God, and in our obedience to him. In every area of our lives, both in what we do and what we say, we want to point people to Jesus.
If you've got any questions about what we believe, or if you'd like to discuss any of this further, please feel free to contact us, or alternatively check out our questions page, where a few questions have been answered, such as "Did Jesus really rise from the dead?" and "Isn’t living a good life enough to make me all right with God?".
